Hydro
One is one of largest distributors of electricity in North America. This
utility has some 20,000 miles of high voltage lines and over 100,000 steel transmission
towers, supplying about 4 million customers with 140,000,000,000 kilowatt-hours
of electricity per year.
For the past couple of years, BOLTMATE
INC. has worked closely with the transmission and distribution division of Hydro
One (formerly Ontario Hydro). Their problem was to find a simple, cost-effective,
and easy to install method of securing their transmission towers from vandalism
by criminals, intent on disrupting vital electrical power. The associated problems
with this type of willful destruction of property may even be more costly.
The solution is a simply designed product
that is tamperproof, self-torquing, rustproof, and cost effective. The installation
requires that the existing nut be removed and be replaced with this nut. The
nut is then ratcheted down in the usual way until the outer hex ring is sheared
away from the inner threaded part. There it is
a precisely torqued bolt
secured from unwanted removal.

"Rod, your product
is working well,
and it is simple to use.
It looks and installs like an ordinary nut
yet it is tamperproof and self-torquing.
A minimal price to pay
for the security of our grid system."
